Welcome to ThusilA Music

Thusila is a music project by Raymond Dussel, based in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. His music spans various genres, including dance, trance, and rock 'n' roll, often characterized by its eclectic and experimental nature. Albums like "Whispering" and "Shaggy In Chains" showcase a blend of energetic beats, quirky titles, and a mix of electronic and traditional rock elements. His work is known for its unconventional and humorous track names, reflecting a playful approach to music production.

Thusila's music is a rich tapestry of psytrance fused with experimental and psychedelic influences, creating a multilayered and dynamic sound. His tracks are characterized by rapid, hypnotic beats that are a staple of psytrance, providing a rhythmic backbone that is both energetic and trance-inducing. However, what sets Thusila apart is his deep attention to atmospheric detail. He uses swirling, ambient soundscapes that evoke a mystical or ethereal feel, often pushing the boundaries of traditional psytrance.

His music can start with an understated introduction, where minimal electronic beats are paired with deep, reverberating basslines that pulse steadily, inviting the listener into a meditative state. As the track evolves, these elements are gradually overlaid with more complex synth lines, distorted melodies, and glitchy, futuristic sounds that build toward climactic moments. This use of gradual build-up is a signature feature, creating a sense of movement that is almost cinematic in scope.

One of the key elements in Thusila’s music is the seamless blending of organic and digital sounds. While the driving force is often synthetic, with electronic beats and sharp transitions, you might hear elements like natural percussion or wind-like sound effects that add an earthy, human touch. This interplay between the synthetic and the organic reinforces the psychedelic aspect of his work, making the music feel both familiar and otherworldly.

Another layer to Thusila’s sound is his incorporation of spatial effects—his tracks frequently employ panning techniques and stereo widening to create a 3D sound experience, making listeners feel as though the sound is moving around them. This spatial manipulation gives the music a physical presence that can be deeply immersive, especially during live performances.

In a festival setting, Thusila is known for playing extended sets where these tracks can breathe and evolve over time. His performances often become journeys where tracks morph into one another, maintaining a constant flow. The live experience heightens the connection between audience and music, with heavy basslines resonating through the body and high-frequency synths dancing across the auditory field. His shows are often described as intense, captivating, and transformative, leveraging the energy of the crowd and the intricacy of his music to create a shared sonic experience.

Thematically, Thusila's music often explores futuristic, cosmic, or transcendental concepts. The titles of his tracks, such as Timetravel or Ancient Wood, reflect a fascination with both space and time, and this is mirrored in the sound design—tracks often feel like journeys through different dimensions or realities, taking the listener on a mental and emotional voyage. This gives his music a narrative quality, as though each track is telling a story or exploring a concept beyond mere entertainment.

Furthermore, Thusila's compositions are not limited to linear progression. While many psytrance artists build their tracks to a single climax, Thusila incorporates multiple layers of tension and release, keeping the listener engaged throughout. His music may dip into more ambient, introspective moments before rising again into high-energy sections, offering a contrast that keeps the overall experience fresh and dynamic. This nonlinear approach reflects Thusila’s experimental side, as he plays with the conventions of psytrance while still respecting its roots.

In conclusion, Thusila’s music stands out for its detailed sound design, its fusion of organic and digital elements, and its ability to evoke both physical and emotional responses from listeners. It's a journey, an exploration of sound that challenges the listener to engage deeply, making it a perfect fit for psychedelic festivals and immersive listening experiences.

About Thusila

Thusila is Raymond Dussel, From Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. Raymond started to play guitar and bass and synthesizers at the age of 14. When in summer 2005 he came on a private school without a program where he could do anything he wanted. He spend 2 years just playing the guitar with a Roland Gp-8 Effectmodule, and Roland D50 synthesizer.

In that time he was a big fan of the band Ozric Tentacles.

In 2006 Raymond got into Electronic, Dance, World, Psy, and Synthesizer Music. So his mate Thomas gave him a copy of Reason 3 to get started. For 4 years Raymond was trying to figure out basic sounddesign. But not untill 2011 things got more serious when he switched over to FL studio so he learned the world of VST's.

In 2013 while living in the grim harbor of Rotterdam with a slutty girlfriend that always cheated on him He got into Steinberg Cubase 5. And since then his music really started taking shape.

Meanwhile in 2014 emerged a Psy Trance festival 3 kilometers behind his house called Psy Fi, where he was invited to perform. From 2014 till 2019 Thusila performed at each edition. Either under Shaggedelic djname or Thusila

But after he got ditched in 2015 he came back to Leeuwarden to live alone in the house where he was born and raised. First thing after the heartbreak was buying an Access Virus TI polar. Entirely devoted to make music. To play at Psy Fi. He started a sounddesign study. But after heartfailures from his broken love (with really a gal he shouldnt had to love) he dropped out. And sat alone in his house for 4 years. Nonstop making music, skipping nights, always write tracks in frozen and sleep deprived states.

In April 2016 Thusila Converted to Studio One. And from there his music productions started to take a more serious form. He was making music, a new track every day. But a lot of this old music got lost. And he also didnt uploaded it the internet. Not untill 2018 Thusila started to publish his music on bandcamp.

in 2018 he bought a turqoise fazley guitar and behringer neutron. And a Arturia Beatstep (hardware sequencer).

In 2019 he moved into the center of the city and also happened to be the last edition of psy fi.

Even though he didn't gave up his compulsive habit to make music and skip nights. Often spending 24 to 42 hours on a track.

Many albums followed. In 2023 he bought a behringer 2600 (arp 2600 remake) a Turqoise bass guitar by fazley, and a behringer crave (A Moog Mother 32 Remake), an behringer RD-6 (TR-606 remake) and a Pittsburgh Taiga. An Arturia Keystep (hardware Sequencer), Which all coloured the sound of his work.

In 2024 Thusila bought a Behringer MS-1 (Roland Sh-101 Remake) and an Arturia Minifreak (digital synth with a vst just like the Virus)

As of 2024, Thusila Released 30 albums officially and Distributed. And he has earned 15 euros with it.

Just to proof hard work, devotion, and quality music really never pays itself off. Unless you lick the hole clean to all of its dirty corners from organisors in the industry.  Its a waste of time. Talent gets wasted if you dont lick the balls dry of people who could support your musical carreer. So never let yourself be encouraged to make music. Cause you will at some point start to cry and beg for mercy.... and wish you were never born.

Cheerz, Ray.

(Ps: even though its nice to have a musical diary from a frozened time span of 12 years or something) where literally every day looked to same.

And still i keep a lot of most absurd and bizarre and unconventional stuff to myself. You would be shocked or not even believe it...

C'est la vie
